Fire safety and security for care homes in Essex and London
A care home is one of the most demanding buildings to protect. Residents may be asleep, unwell or unable to move without help, so a fire has to be found early and staff need to know exactly where it is. OC Fire & Security designs, installs and maintains care home fire alarms, access control and CCTV, with one team looking after all of it.
Fire detection that gives staff time
Most care homes need detection in every room, which the British Standard BS 5839-1 calls a Category L1 system. An addressable panel shows the exact room, so staff can start moving residents away from the fire, one protected area at a time. We service fire alarm systems at least every six months and keep the log book up to date for your inspections.
Evacuation plans built around your residents
Your fire risk assessment should set out how each resident would be moved, including those who need two members of staff or equipment. We carry out fire risk assessments for care homes and train staff in the plan, including night shifts when fewer people are on duty.
Doors that keep residents safe without trapping anyone
Access control stops residents leaving unnoticed and keeps visitors to the right areas. Every controlled door on an escape route is wired to release when the fire alarm sounds. CCTV in entrances and shared areas adds a record if something goes wrong.
Records ready for the CQC and the fire service
Inspectors ask to see servicing, testing and training records. After every visit you get a written report, and we keep the service history for every system we look after.
Common questions
Most care homes need an L1 system, with detectors in every room. Your fire risk assessment confirms the category for your building.
